The Maagdenhuis of today is a foundation that supports social welfare initiatives. This foundation began as a Catholic orphanage for girls in Amsterdam and has a rich history going back to the sixteenth century. The support given to projects by the Maagdenhuis comes in the form of a financial contribution, advice and/or administrative assistance. This support is often given to small projects, which are modernising, sometimes against the current of the established provision of aid, and which directly benefit the people concerned.
