Central Europe
Since 1992,there has been close cooperation between five coordinating foundations (including the Maagdenhuis) and about thirty others to deal with applications relating to Central Europe.
The foundations have divided the sphere of activity between them, in such a way that the opportunities available for project guidance from the Netherlands and for contacts with key figures locally are used to the maximum effect.
The Maagdenhuis coordinates allocation of donations to Kaliningrad.
The responsibility for coordinating the other countries concerned lies with the SKaN Foundation (Slovakia, West-Oekraine, Montenegro, Servia and Albania), the Foundation for Children’s Welfare Stamps Netherlands (Croatia, Rumania and Bosnia Herzegovina) and Janivo Foundation (Moldavia). Click here for more information about the Cooperating Netherlands Foundations.
There is great emphasis on direct contact with projects and key figures in those countries. In the countries concerned, advisory boards have been set up that supervise applications where necessary and pre-select and advise the Netherlands foundations with respect to allocation.

The advisory boards and foundations are not merely focussed on processing applications. With large projects, which are too expensive for the resources of one foundation, supplementary finance is sought from associated foundations. Promising projects are also stimulated to make an application. There is regular contact between the advisors and the foundations regarding the progress of projects. Projects are also visited to keep up to date with results and effects.
