The Maagdenhuis Foundation provides financial assistance, advice and administrative or management support to social projects that help groups or organisations to become self-supporting.
First established in the sixteenth century as a Roman Catholic orphanage for girls in Amsterdam, the Maagdenhuis now supports some 350 projects a year, both at home and abroad, focusing on innovative small-scale projects. In some cases, the Maagdenhuis also draws attention to social issues and, in collaboration with other organisations, takes the initiative in finding solutions.
In the Netherlands, our target groups have traditionally been the young and the old. In the past few years, particular attention has been given to projects for people from different ethnic backgrounds and the young homeless.
In developing countries, the Maagdenhuis focuses on small-scale projects based on local initiatives. Recently it has centred its attention on a number of priority countries in West Africa. A network of consultants in these countries advises on the viability of projects and monitors their progress.
We welcome your applications and we have written this leaflet to guide you through the application process. First of all, we would like you to realise that, in order to be effective in the donations we grant, we need to limit the types of projects we support. On this page you will find a list of the criteria we ask for.
Furthermore, it is not always easy for us to grasp the idea behind your project or to understand the circumstances that gave rise to your plans. We therefore need information on your organisation and its activities, as well as details about the project itself.
Countries we focus on: Senegal, Togo
Other countries: South Africa, Surinam
